Anna, TX – The Women’s All Pro Tour season is set to resume in Anna, Texas June 9th – 12th at Hurricane Creek Country Club for the Hurricane Creek Classic. This is the 2nd year that Hurricane Creek has hosted a tournament for the WAPT and presents one of the strongest fields in the tour’s history with players excited to get back to competitive golf.
“Last year was an overwhelming success. We are really excited that the WAPT can restart their season here,” says Director of Golf Greg Morrison. “The pro-am is something we really look forward to; the interaction and relationships built between the members and players is very special.”
The WAPT field for the second annual Hurricane Creek Classic is boasting some big names. LPGA star Maria Fassi will make her WAPT debut as she prepares for the LPGA to start back in July. Fassi is the 2019 NCAA Women’s National Champion and took second place in the first ever Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Along with Fassi, other big names join the Hurricane Creek Classic field. Two-time US Am Champion and LPGA member Kristen Gilman, and 16-year-old amateur Alexa Pano join the field. Pano has had a great start to her young career, already playing in an US Women’s Open and representing the USA in a junior Solheim Cup.
The tournament features 80 golfers looking to take home their share of the $40,000 purse, with first winning $7,500 and an exemption into a Symetra Tour event. The event is 72-holes of stroke play format and the field will be cut down to the top 40% of the field including ties, after 54-holes.
Defending WAPT champion Britney Yada (Hilo, Hawaii) is back to defend her title in Anna after winning the inaugural event last season. “Hurricane Creek Country Club is a course that definitely suits my eye. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying to defend,” says last year’s champion Britney Yada. “With everything going on, I’m so happy to see WAPT starting up again. It’s been a crazy year thus far and I know everyone’s itching to compete again.”
A schedule of the week’s events can be found here. Tournament play will begin on Tuesday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. CT. Following the final round Friday there will be an award presentation outside the Hurricane Creek Country Club clubhouse.
