Nannette Hill wins 2024 Mackie Construction Pro Golf Classic
(Abilene, TX) – The final round of the 2024 Mackie Construction Pro Golf Classic has concluded and a new champion was crowned. Nannette Hill (Jupiter, FL) walked away with the hardware, with an ending most people can only dream about. The former LPGA member finished the final round with a 6-under 64, making her tournament total at 14-under par.
The day started off with cooler temperatures than what players experienced in the previous rounds. Although the weather was a nice break from the wind and 90 degree heat, the championship round was no walk in the park for Hill as she felt the pressure from her playing partners Mohan Du (China) and Yucen Han (China).
“They were putting heat on me all day, so I was just trying to stay really present, just really in the moment and inside it was emotionally tough. But I was trying to focus on each shot and on each routine and not letting myself get out in front or behind, so that’s really what I was trying to do today,” said Hill.
With birdies on holes 10 and 11 and no bogeys in sight, Hill had a lead heading to the 18th tee. The par 4, 392 yard hole saw no under-par scores for the entire final round, diminishing any thought of drawing a circle for the final group. However, Hill seemed to have felt no pressure hitting her approach shot as she holed out from 132 yards for an eagle to secure her win.
“I love my pitching wedge and the pin was right in the center of the green. It was a little downwind and so I felt comfortable with the shot and just boom it went in,” said Hill.
With the putter-less walk to the green, Hill was able to take in the roars and claps from the spectators, knowing she had just been named the 2024 Mackie Constriction Pro Golf Classic Champion.
“I’m just taking this all in and really enjoying it,” said Hill. “I’m really happy with today.”
Finishing five shots back from Hill was Victoria Gailey (Tigard, OR) and Yucen Han who tied for the second place spot at 9-under for the tournament. With Gailey’s second place finish and her Callaway Race to Stage II overall points, the Oregon native received an exemption alongside Hill to EPSON Tour’s FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship held June 7-9.
