US Restoration Northshore Championship Round 2 Recap

(Mandeville, LA) —As round two concludes at the US Restoration Northshore Championship, players found a more getable golf course to conquer. With lesser wind than day one, hitting landing spots off the tee seemed to be more obtainable. However, the playing field found the 6,494 yard course to have its fair share of challenges as they looked to get inside the cut line.

Alison Muirhead (Scotland) seemed to be unbothered by the demanding characteristics of the course, as she fired a 5-under 67 to take the lead by four strokes. Muirhead started her round by birdie-ing the first two holes, but then found herself with a bogey before putting down another circle on the first nine. Muirhead finished her round with a consistent bogey-free back nine as she made three more birdies.

“I definitely held a lot more putts today and definitely read the greens a lot better, but I really just tried to stay in the moment and I enjoyed playing golf and my playing partners were really nice so it made it easy,” said Muirhead. “I tried to think where the wind direction is and that’s what you have to think about and then you just determine what club you need, but I do have a Scottish caddy so they know the wind better than most people.”

Sitting in T2 is Lizzie Win (Orlando, FL) and Maria Balcazar (Mexico), who are both at even par heading into the third round. Win moved up one spot on the leaderboard as she carded a 72 with two bogeys and two birdies.

“Yesterday I shot even par and I was 2-over on the par 5’s which should never be the case in my opinion. And so today all I wanted to be was under par on the par 5’s. I was hitting the ball pretty solid off the tee which I think is key to scoring on this golf course,” said Win. “Today I just kept it in play and my ball striking was good.”

The third round will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT with a double - tee start at Beau Chene Country Club, with players being paired by score and the leaders teeing off last. After the third round has concluded, the field will be re-paired by score heading to the final round. The field over the next two days will be competing for their share of $55,000 purse.
