Vongsaga takes the lead after RD 3 of the OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championship

(Peoria, IL) The third round of the OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championship at Metamora Fields Golf Club has concluded and the leaderboard was full of movement. Despite the overcast weather conditions and a late afternoon rain shower, the players used moving day to their advantage.

After carding a 5-under 66, Kailie Vongsaga (Diamond Bar, CA) sits at the top of the leaderboard by one stroke. The Ohio State alum started the round with a bogey on the first hole, but quickly turned it around with birdies on holes 4,6,8 and 9.

“I was hitting the ball well out there today. Some of my drives were not the greatest but I stayed really patient especially with the rain. Putting was really good for me today, so we hope to keep that going tomorrow,” said Vongsaga.

Sitting one shot back at 9-under total, is Jacqueline Lucena (Chico, CA) who also turned in a 5-under 66. Despite this being Lucena’s professional debut, she showed no signs of panic as she birdied the first hole of the day and proceeded to have a bogey-free 4-under back nine.

“Honestly I just gave myself a lot of chances, stayed really patient and I hit a lot of really good shots on my front nine. I wasn't making a ton of the putts but I knew that they were going to fall at some point,” said Lucena. “On the back nine I just had a really good stretch of five holes.”

The
final round will begin at 7:00 a.m. CT at Metamora Fields Golf Club. The field will be competing for their share of the $80,000 purse, as the winner will take home $12,500. With the top five places within one stroke of each other, the stage will be set for an exciting final round at the OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championship.
