Cooper takes the lead heading into final round of L’Auberge Lake Charles Championship
(Lake Charles, LA) – The second round of the L’Auberge Lake Charles Championship has wrapped up and players were met with near to perfect weather conditions. After battling what seemed like three-club wind during the first round, the field experienced blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70’s. With the course playing as getable as it could, turning in red scores was not out of the ordinary.
Hailee Cooper (Montgomery, TX) was among those who turned in a scorecard under par. The Texas native fired a 6-under 65 to take the lead heading into the final round. Although Cooper bogeyed her first hole, she picked up momentum by birdie-ing holes five, six and seven before making five more birdies on the back nine.
“My putter got hot on the back nine. I was just hitting every green and I noticed that my bad shots were in the right places, so I think it was just missing the right places and yeah my putter got hot,” said Cooper.
Sitting right behind Cooper in T2 is Alison Muirhead (Scotland) and Nannette Hill (Jupiter, FL). Muirhead carded a 4-under to move up one spot on the leaderboard and was once again walking away with a bogey-free round.
“With no wind today I was able to control the ball a lot better and it was actually a really enjoyable round,” said Muirhead. “Although there was no wind I still had to make some adjustments because I was off in the morning and you still have a bit of cold weather.”
The final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT with a double - tee start at Contraband Bayou Golf Club, with players being paired by score and the leaders teeing off last. The field will be competing for their share of a $56,500 purse, with $10,000 going to the winner.
