Cooper takes home the victory in her professional event at L’Auberge Lake Charles Championship
(Lake Charles, LA) – Playing in her first professional event, Hailee Cooper did not shy away from dreaming big. Despite severe weather delaying the first round, playing in a 3-club wind and settling the nerves, Cooper managed to walk away with the L’Auberge Lake Charles Championship title by six strokes.
Although it was a foreign feeling of being paired in the leading group of a professional event, the Texas native made her final score of 5-under 66 look all too easy. In spite of bogeying the second hole by three-putting, Cooper gained her momentum back by birdie-ing three holes on the front nine before turning in a bogey free 3-under back nine score.
“I made some putts here and there but I think I was more consistent off the tee, hitting the middle of the green and I made more putts from five to 10 feet that I hit close, so I took advantage of the opportunities I had,” said Cooper.
With placing first in the event Cooper, along with second place finisher Sophie Zhang-Murphy, earned themselves an exemption into the EPSON Tour’s IOA Championship, held April 26-28th.
“This feels amazing. I think it just proves all my hard work and then using the off season and my tournament last week as a warm up made me feel really prepared,” said Cooper. “The wind also didn’t faze me, so it was amazing and I’m just so excited and grateful.”
