Mary Parsons clenches first professional title at 2024 Kathy Whitworth Championship
(Trophy Club, TX) – The final round of the Kathy Whitworth Championship has concluded and the trophy found its way to Mary Parsons (Canada) who celebrated her first professional win. After carding three rounds in the 60’s at Trophy Club Country Club, Parsons turned in an even-par 72 to secure her win by six strokes.
The Canadian started the final round on a consistent wave with a 2-under bogey-free front nine. After writing down a par on the 10th hole the previous three days, Parsons was able to circle a birdie on the par 5 in hopes of gaining momentum heading into the back. However, she gained the stroke right back with a bogey on the 11th and then added two more with bogeys on holes 15 and 18.
“I found both sides of the trees and not the fairway on 18 all week, so I was just trying to put it back into play this final round and tried to get the ball in the hole as quick as I could,” said Parsons. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn't nervous coming into the round today. I haven’t been in this position in a while so it was nice to get the job done here in Dallas.”
With the win at Trophy Club CC, Parsons moved up to the 6th spot on the Callaway Race To Stage II points list, which awards the top five players exemptions into the second stage of LPGA Q-School.
“This is great momentum heading into the last part of the season and then going into Q-School so I’m really excited to see what happens,” said Parsons.
The ANNIKA WAPT will be heading to Wichita, KS for the Heritage Classic Tour Championship at Rolling Hills Country Club (Aug. 1-4).
