Setting records and catching titles : Alison Muirhead wins Redbird Championship
Normal, IL – The final round of the Redbird Championship has come to a close, not only marking a new course record but giving a second win to Alison Muirhead. After turning in a 4-over 76 in the first round, Muirhead seemed to find her groove as she carded a Weibring Golf Club course record with an 8-under 64 to finish out the final 18.
The Scotland native started off strong in the last round, birdie-ing the first hole which seemed to have given her the momentum of putting down eight more circles throughout the round. Muirhead birdied holes 7 through 11 with three more on holes 13, 15, and 16.
“I definitely just made a lot more putts today, put it a lot closer so I gave myself loads of opportunities,” said Muirhead. “The course was playing tough so you had to take on pretty much all the opportunities you could take.”
With her 8-under final score, Muirhead moved up 11 spots on the leaderboard to take her second professional win of the 2024 season. She also moved into the second spot for the Callaway Race To Stage II rankings with 1,484 points.
“It feels great to have the course record, especially someone from the UK. It’s just nice to know you have that record. This win also means a lot because it was my grandad’s birthday and he was obviously someone very special to me,” said Muirhead. “It was nice to know he was looking down trying to push those putts in.”
